Increasing Access to Food & Benefits Through our Benefits Access Department

Our Benefits Access team busts through red tape to help low-income New Yorkers access vital food benefits. We aid individuals and families through each step of the SNAP application process, from conducting pre-screenings and filing applications to serving as client advocates. We also provide support with recertifications, ensuring that eligible families continue to receive benefits without interruption. Our multi-lingual staff speaks English, Spanish, and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) enabling us to work across four of the five boroughs in diverse communities.

*Please note that our Benefits Access Team assists only those living in New York City. For help finding food assistance in other parts of the US and Puerto Rico, please call the USDA National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE.

SNAP / Food Stamps Recertification Assistance

Are you currently receiving food stamps? Have you recently received a recertification notice in the mail?

If so, Hunger Free NYC can help! We have staff at community-based organizations across the city to assist you in filling out and submitting your application materials. This partnership between Hunger Free NYC and the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA), addresses the urgent need to help clients currently receiving SNAP to remain enrolled for the benefits for which they are eligible.

At an appointment with our staff, the application and required documentation are submitted electronically. Clients may also elect to have our staff serve as the authorized representative for the required follow-up phone interview with HRA.

Call Miguelina Diaz at 646-358-4917,, to schedule an appointment or for more information about this project.
